'Sweeney Todd' magazine

This is a cover from the magazine Entertainment Weekly. Its main story on the front cover is for the film Sweeney Todd which is a remake of the well known musical. The most interesting feature of this front cover is that the actors name 'Johnny Depp' is written a lot bigger than the name of the film which is written in very small writing below. This suggests that this well known actor is the main selling point of the film and they are trying to draw audiences different audiences in by celebrating the fact of his successful career. The red writing on the poster is used to make the heading make sense but are not very important information. The number 39 which is also the pale blue colour of the magazines title could interest the reader and make them want to find out more.
The colours on the front cover are quite dark and grey which suggests that the film is quite sinister and dark. Depps face is made to look pale and ill which relates to the story line and helps to make his features stand out on the colourless background. The facial expression of the characters face could intrigue the audience and make them wonder wants wrong with him and why he looks so drained. It also makes him look dangerous and angry which may make the audience intimidated by him. He is dressed in old clothes which shows the period in which the film is set and adds to the dark and menacing persona.
The biggest writing on the front of the magazine is The title of the magazine. This demonstrates that the think that people will want to read their magazine which means it has a good reputation. This magazines title is also very unique as the word 'weekly' is shown in the word 'entertainment'. This draws attention to the word 'entertainment' and makes the audience think that this magazine would be a good read.
