Golden Eye Film Poster Analysis

This film trailer has lots of bright colours on it to make it eye catching and show up against other film posters. This will draw the audience’s attention in and make it appear more exciting and interesting. It is also a very symmetrical picture which is pleasing for the eye of the viewer. The picture also contains the standard well known features of a bond film for example the explosions and the gun. The explosions are in the background of the picture which can be associated with action films and would draw in the right audience. This picture also demonstrates the technique of rule of thirds which is very effective in this instance.

The writing is in bold gold lettering which stands out on the blue background and reflects the word 'Golden' in the title. The colour of the writing could suggest royalty and 1st class status. This could illustrate to the audience that this film is better than any other film out there and shows 1st class performances. 

Above the main title of the film there is more writing '007' and an image of a gun which is surrounded by bright and colourful pictures. This text is the biggest text on the poster which could be because the audience would recognise it as being a James bond film which is its main selling point. 

On each side of the main character 'James Bond' there are very attractive girls which may interest the male audience and draw them in. These two characters are also very contrasting as one is dressed in black which could evoke darkness and evil and the other is wearing white which could illustrate naivety and innocence. This may be to demonstrate the diverse characters in the film. The lighting in this picture causes Bonds face to be half in shadow which could connotes his character and suggest that he is torn between good and evil.

Beth and I created this prezi to show our ideas of unusual film names which we could use for our own film. We have mainly centred them around the around the two nursery rhymes we are choosing between and the idea of our villains being hidden behind their masks.

March Editing

**MARCH DIARY OF EDITING

4th March

As it is getting close to the deadline for our final trailer, we have been doing a lot of editing! Our trailer is almost exactly how we want it, so there is not much left to do! Today we tried out different formations of shots, to see which were the most tension building, and which caused the most fright when they all flashed up; i.e. masked faces, weapons, getting closer to the camera etc. We also put on some sound that we recorded of a car engine, which is going to signify the murders waiting in their car for the victim to come home.  

6th March

Trailer order is our main focus today. On Monday, we pretty much sorted our the order of our trailer, so today we were left with making sure that non of the shots we wanted to flash up were too long, and some short shorts were long enough that the audience could still see what they were. We want every shot to connect with our audience, so making sure they are long/short enough is very important. We managed to finish the beginning of our trailer today, so it is exactly how we want it. We have not finished the middle and ending yet as we are still trying the different formations to see the most effect sequence of shots.

8th March

Today was supposed to be focused on editing, but we quickly completed what we needed to do, so our middle is FINISHED!! Or so we hoped! We still felt like something was missing, so we made the best of our time and went into the main hall at our school. Even though it was just us two girls, and we had zero actors and no mask; we managed to find half a mask so one of us wore it and pretended to be the bad guy. Luckily we were wearing dark clothes so we were able to film some shots, which we then quickly put onto Adobe and edited into our middle bit. We added them into the middle as the beginning was how we wanted it, and we didn't feel that they would be dramatic enough for the ending. Only one or two shots we filmed today went towards the end. 

    11th March

We have left sound to the very end, in order to decided what is the best music/voice for our trailer and what we want it to portray. Last night we asked someone to sing the nursery rhymes '1,2 buckle my shoe' and 'rockaby baby' to see which rhyme would sound the best. Today we put them onto our trailer and although they sounded good we didn't feel that the voice sounded child like enough and spooky enough, but for the time being it will have to do. We also put on the sound effect of wind, and put on another sound we were able to create from swinging curtains, which was a creeking, metal noise.

12th, 13th & 14th March

These three days have been very important for our trailer. We have massivly focused on music recently as we weren't happy with the sound we had previously filmed. Over these three days; we went to the music department and into the studio and recorded our own sound to put onto our trailer. We have added more and more to the sound as we went along as we still felt like bits are missing. We have not put it onto our trailer yet as we have not had the chance, but will be doing that on Monday.  

 

Trailer synopsis

We are trying to make our trailer as frightening as possible. Our trailer will follow two different girls, with one being the main focus. The girl at the beginning will be killed off by our murderer who has a concealed identity, which will then lead on to the trailer focusing on the one girl.

Our trailer is about two murderers, who wear masks to hide their identity. Although they are murderers, they do not just break into their victims house and kill them, they torture them by the fact that the victims never know where they are, but know that they are lurking around. Our film will follow the victims attempted escapes, to which the murders will never be too far away.

Skyfall film poster analysis

This film poster is very effective as it portrays the emotions and genre of the film. The camera angle is an almost a low angle/ mid shot which makes the character of James Bond seem superior and intimidating.  It also shows him as an authoritive figure and suggests what his character is like in the film. This makes the audience inquisitive to whom and why he is shown in this way. The shot showing ‘Bond’ is taken in a way that shows Big Ben, which highlights one of our British Landmarks, which celebrates the fact that it is British, as by seeing Big Ben, it is known that they are in London.

The mise en scene is also effective in showing his status and his emotions, as the lighting around him is fairly bright, so that it is obvious he is there, but the lighting in the background is dark and gloomy, which demonstrates pathetic fallacy which could suggest evil or depression, as these are the emotions that are associated with darkness. Where he is standing looks deserted, except for the buildings in the background. This could suggest to the audience that he is someone to avoid, due to his emotions on his face. The use of the prop of a gun in his hand displays his dangerous status and illustrates that he is a character who should not be messed with. The prop of the car is in the foreground of the picture highlights that it is his vehicle which coupled with his expensive suit establishes his high profile. His clothing creates conflicting emotions towards the audience’s first impressions. This is because it appears that there is a fine line between him being a business man and a ‘gangster’. This gives the audience the opportunity to decipher between whether he is a business man who is distressed and being hunted or a ‘gangster’ who’s involved in a gang war.

The colours in this picture are very dull and grey which portrays the mood of the film and reflects the attitude in which the character is showing. However, the colours could be seen as classy and stands out compared to other film posters as the colouring is unusual and dynamic. 

The font and text size is different for the different writings; 007 is small and the only thing not in black and white which could signify the importance of it. The bond films stand out against other films through the '007'. The name of the film is in block capitals which demonstrates that it is not any other genre as the bold letters make it look serious and violent.

The image on this film poster has been cropped so that 'Bond' is in the center of this picture. It has also been cropped so that the number plate of the car is shown, which could prove to be of significance - e.g. his famous number plate. It has also been cropped in a way that Big Ben is just to the right of Bond.

Editing Diary

Along with filming, editing is a very important process for our trailer. Editing brings all the scenes and shots together, and gives us the best tools to make our trailer as good as possible.

Monday 7th Jan

Today Beth and I edited our footage from Thursday 3rd and Saturday 5th Jan to make a start on the footage we have. Unfortunately when we put all our footage into 'Adobe Premiere Elements' it was all very dark and you couldn't really see anything. Due to this we are going to refilm what we already have so that our audience will be able to see the shots and see our characters within them. As frustrating as this is for us, we have no choice but to refilm as we think that some of the shots are really effective.

Wednesday 16th Jan

Today we got to put our new footage onto Adobe. This footage was some new, and some refilmed. We only did basic editing, which involved shortening some clips, as there were only certain parts of the shots that we wanted. From this we created some long, and some short shots, so that we have variety in our trailer, and the really interesting shots just quickly flash up.

Tuesday 22nd Jan   

We had lots of editing to do today. It snowed a lot recently so we got to film a lot in the snow. Our shots from the snow give variety to our trailer as it shows the jump from the killer at one house, to the killer at another house. Our main intention today was just to put the footage onto Adobe and delete bits of the footage that were irrelevant or didn't look very good. We didn't do too much editing of the trailer overall as we had so much footage, we just needed to put the most important bits in, and make sure everything was relevant to how we wanted our trailer to be.

Tuesday 12th Feb

Clip placement was our main focus today. We had some new footage and a lot of old footage. Our main idea today was to make sure we had our beginning and ending how we wanted it, so that we would just have the middle to work on. Although we sorted out the beginning, we felt that we needed more original shots to show, so we are going to do some more filming some time this week. We also came up with some new shots we are probably going to try out today, so hopefully we capture them asap.

Wednesday 20th Feb

We did filming yesterday! We managed to capture some of the shots we had thought of yesterday so today we put them onto Adobe and ensured they all fit together perfectly. We did a lot of cutting today to create fast paced shots, and found an effect on Adobe that made a clip all blurry, which could lead our audience to think that the victim is watching the killer walk away, and her vision is blurry due to a knock to the head or something similar. 

     Tuesday 26th Feb

We decided to scrap a lot of shots today, as we changed our minds about who our main actress/actor was today due to them being unavailable when we desperately needed to film. Luckily we quickly replaced them so we had new footage of our new actors and actress. As we have new footage of new people, we have a lot more than we did prior to today so we have the option to scrap certain scenes and replace them with more interesting ones. We have so much footage that we now have to decide what is the most effective and interesting. Due to this we have only kept some snow day footage, and used a lot of indoor footage as when we were filming it, we were in full control of the light situation.

Thursday 3rd January 2013

Beth and I met up on Thursday at 12 o'clock as we wanted to plan what we would film and then travel over to the location which was in Ashtead. We managed to film a few scenes that will look quite effective in our trailer and we thought of a few more shots that we could take as we were in the location which gave us lots more ideas and we really benefited from it. My favorite shot that we took today was the villain dragging our victim across the floor as it looks very mysterious and gruesome and would make the audience very frightened.

Saturday 5th January 2013

Beth and I met up on Saturday to plan and film our trailer. We met up at two o’clock so that we could write down exactly what we wanted to do today and so that it wouldn't be too dark after we had made a plan. We were one actor down which meant that we could only film in one of our locations so we tried to make the best of what we had. We used a car as a prop and showed it in different shots and scenes. However when it came to putting the footage onto the computer we found out that it was much too dark and it would have to be all re filmed. This is very frustrating as we felt that we had filmed lots of good shots which would be really effective in our trailer. Although the only advantage is it will be easier when it comes to filming it again as we will know exactly what we are doing and where to put the camera. When we re film this footage we will have to remember to take it when it is a little lighter as the character will be seen more clearly and their surroundings.

Saturday 12th January 2013

Today Beth and I met up to film some new shots, that we thought would look effective in our trailer. We re-filmed some shots from last week that were too dark, and tried to come up with new, interesting angles that would show creativity. We filmed slightly earlier than last time, but still in the evening as we did not want our film to be too dark. A problem we encountered was that very bad, rain and wind. This meant that we were not able to do some shots outside as it was simply dreadful.

18th, 19th & 20th January 2013

These three days were snow days which was a big advantage to us and our filming. When it snows, the sky reflects onto a white surface so it is generally always lighter than usual. This was an advantage to us as the snow gave us new ideas for shots, and meant that we were able to capture the snow in some shots which could create the idea of a 'snowed in' situation for our victim, where no one would be able to help because the snow restricted anyone getting to her. It also gave our shots something different, and meant that not everything looked identical. Our filming was spread over 3 days as, as the days went on the snow got heavier and better to film with. 

Saturday 9th February 2013

In our filming today today, we decided to add a new killer, along with our first killer. We had this inspiration through our killer's brother being home. At the time we had two masks, one of which we painted, and the other that we left blank. By having two masks, it reminded us of the film 'The Strangers' which has 3 killers, and is very frightening as their identity is concealed. We chose white masks as they show up brilliantly in the darkness, and are so simple, yet scary. The use of a new killer creates the sense that one could be following our victim, as the other one waits in the shadows for her to appear.

Tuesday 19th February 2013

Today we were one killer down. Due to this, we had to be inventive with the shots we were doing as we only had one killer available. We decided to reshoot some of our car shots, and just refilm any shots that were too dark. We also decided to do some shots with the stairs and landing as we had not really used these before. It is quite good that we only had one killer, as when only one killer is shown, it creates questioning with the audience about where the other killer is.
